Take a Drive.

When you see a house you like, look at the map. If that listing and location looks good, get in the car and check it out! Even if you love the house, if you don’t like the location, you will likely move on. It may also help you narrow your search by removing that area or community from your search criteria. Get to know the neighborhoods, complexes, or subdivisions, which interest you. Is it close to family or work? Is some extra drive time worth it? Drive around and get a feel for what it would be like to own a property in the area. Start getting a sense of the properties available in those areas.

Narrow Your Search.

Select a few properties that interest you the most and have your real estate agent make appointments to visit them. Ask your real estate agent about the potential long term resale value of the properties you are considering.

Time to Buy.

Once you have picked out the property you want to purchase, your real estate agent can help you make an offer that works for you, and hopefully the seller will accept it. The type of market you are in at that time, may change your offer up or down. A good agent will fully educate you on what current market conditions are. Is it a buyers market or a sellers market? Your agent can also help you draft your offer in a way that gives you the advantage over another offer – experience does matter.
